Red Hook NY is located Upstate  in Dutchess County NY and is made up of the Town of Red Hook and the Villages of Red Hook and Tivoli. It was once a part of the town of Rhinebeck, the separation occurred in 1812. The current population is 11,319 and it cover an area of  36.7 square miles.

It  offers the best of both worlds.  You can enjoy the mountain views, sail on the Hudson River, ride your horse,  and yet you are only minutes away from cultural activities and fine dining.

Commute

Most residents commute by car.  However if you work in New York City you would probably take the Amtrak from Rhinecliff.

Another way to get to New York City would be to take the Metro-North Train from Poughkeepsie about 35 minutes away.

Others commute to Westchester, and Connecticut by the Taconic State Parkway to I84  and I684.

Going across the Kingston Rhinecliff Bridge others use the NY State Thruway heading to NYC or Albany.

Very limited bus services available as far as Poughkeepsie

Schools and College

The Red Hook Central School District consist of 3 school, the Mill Road Elementary School, Linden Avenue Middle School and the Red Hook High School.  The school district serve both students in Red Hook, some of Columbia County and the town of Milan.

The town is also home to Bard College one of the three four year colleges located in Dutchess County.  Bard is located in the hamlet of Annandale on Hudson.  On the Bard Campus you will also find the Richard B. Fisher Center and the Levy Economic Center.
