Beekman NY, like many other Dutchess County towns, was established in 1788. Back then there were a few large landowners like Livingston and Beekman, hence the Town of Beekman was named after Henry Beekman.
Located in Southern Dutchess County it covers an area of 30.3 square miles with a population of about 14,000.
Mining was once a big industry in the area, so was agriculture; and when IBM came to Fishkill, the economy of the area became more diversified.
Many chose this area to call home because it was ideal for commuting. The Taconic State Parkway served as a connection to nearby Route 84; a major highway heading to Connecticut in the east or Orange County to the west.
